if you are trained in a profession (not academic) in germany you have to write a training report. for some professions daily, for other weekly and for the lucky ones monthly. i have to write weekly reports. i am very lazy when i have to do ugly jobs like writing reports... i never wrote any so i have to write weekreports for the last 121 weeks. its so boring. i relax in between while developing the ActionScript grammars. the problem with this report is that nobody will ever read it! nobody ! ever ! and i have to write what i have done in school and at work for 121 weeks.
luckily i can program :). i asked a class mate for his reports. they are created in corel. i downloaded the trial version of corel and wrote a small vb-script that exports all documents as richtext. i wrote a small java program that parses the school part out of the textfiles and writes it into text files. than i wrote a second java programm that generates all week start and end dates, weekcounts, and year counts and grabs the schoolreport out of the textfiles and writes it into xml files. than i layouted a master in inDesign and wrote some small scripts for generating inDesign files filled with the xml data and exporting the xml data out of the indesign files.
so i only have to write 121 work reports. i am at file 30 ... its so boring ...
